this is…not an actual fic but more of ramblings? outlines? thoughts?
first of all, i’m ripping off the real life craziness that is virtuemoir and uh, morgan rielly. read one hockey rpf and now i think i know ENOUGH + i’ve read ek off campus & briar u. i only care about ice dance once every four years so theres also that. no research go girl!
- liked skating recreationally with his family, he looked at skating like it was a novel thing because he grew up in jeju. got skating lessons when he moved to seoul & tried to fine footing as a singles skater.
- also had his ballet/jazz/sports dance training or whatever before getting into figure skating!
- was okay at the novice level, but realized he wasn’t a fan of the jumps.
- starts looking into ice dance but forced to put that in the back burner bc lack of interest/partners. kinds of flounders his way through juniors
- found ryujin. more of their career later.
- coach switch before 2016/2017 and moves to toronto to train at toronto cricket club!
- noted as a charismatic and fluid dancer on ice, very heavy on the artistry of it all. known for the little details he incorporates into his program.

- went to the ice rink with his brother instead of an sm audition and fell in love with hockey
- starts playing at the rink + school and people start noticing him
- gets committed to boston university to play hockey. got drafted by the nhl in the 3rd round by edmonton oilers (sorry had to do that bc of 90s love) but he played NCAA hockey until he graduated.

- after the boost of confidence at korean nats, they start flouishing. ryujin stops being a trainee (idk how contracts work but whatever).
- they go to the youth olympic games and place 5th
- they go to worlds juniors & they place 7th in their first year competing together.
- skip to their 2nd year of korean nats and they’re undoubtedly the champion, defeating the senior ice dancing team

- ryuhae starts dramatically improving and ends up with a gold medal from the autumn classic comp. they also finish top 5 on grand prix events. medals in other challenger comps. wins korean nationals. go to 4CC and wins gold (im saying this is 2018 4cc, where the bigger ice dance countries such as usa & canada don’t send top teams so they can prepare for the olympics). miss out on the olympics bc of a minor injury but goes to senior worlds and place 5th
- 2018-2021 they win gold at a few grand prix event and bronze in gpf. wins bronze in worlds in 2020.
- next season is the 2020/2021 season and im pretending covid doesnt exist fuck you covid. a top 10 team in the world. upward trajectory. people start considering them to medal in the olympics as like a wildcard type of thing.
- 2021/2022 blablabla they basically got bronze at the olympics the same way the shibsibs did (someone after them fucks up).
- okay so basically shin/lee as a team is known for their electric chemistry and they literally have dedicated ship-based fanbases all over the world bc they’re insane like that. they love shipbaiting! it’s their Thing
- are always complimented on their skating skills! they also skate very closely together (it’s the world vs ice academy of montreal). haechan is especially gifted in like deep edges and shit.
- their lifts aren’t as interesting as other teams though and as this is one of the exciting elements of ice dance (since there’s no jumps/throws etc) people sometimes count them out
- they always have a bomb choreographic character step sequence in their free dance though! that is something they’re also known for.
- shin/lee is knows for their expressions and if there’s one thing they’ll do, it’s EMOTE. i’d say they’re not the couple to push the limits of ice dance (ala papadakis/cizeron) but they’re definitely the couple who have high artistry. they always have high program component scores!
- also hot people in ice dance. do i have to say more.
- have definitely done a program to shinee. i’ve decided they did this in the 2017/2018 season (where they won 4cc). free dance to love like oxygen. a fan favorite program ofc and it has like 6 million views on youtube and has went viral on kpoptwt a few times (aided by donghyuck shawolisms and him still idolizing taemin + ryujin ex jyp trainee narrative).
- their olympic season rhythm dance is to killshot & venice by magdalena bay (idk in my head it could work with the midnight blues pattern step) and their free dance is to square (2017) by yerin baek. their exhibition skate is the fan favorite of love like oxygen!
- the free dance to square (2017) is also a favorite of the fans & judges. it’s very “dancing in your kitchen in the refrigerator light” vibes. like it’s very intimate and you kind of want to look away. which is a contrast to the previous season’s free dance, where the sexual tension was kind of through the roof. scott moir would call it “raunchy” even.
2015/2016
- debut season
- competes domestically for the most part
- won silver at korean nationals
- got sent to 2016 youth olympic games, which also happens to be their international debut. they placed 5th
- since they competed at yog & that’s an isu-approved event i think they should be eligible to compete at junior worlds? lets pretend that’s possible. cause i’m making them place 7th

- in the 2020/2021 season shin/lee (will be refering them as s/l from this point on) go to skate america in vegas. wow! leafs are playing against the vegas golden knights around the same time (idk how nhl season works and they’re in different conferences but LETS PRETEND THIS MAKES SENSE!!! this is my creative freedom).
- s/l assistant coach is a fan of the leafs and convinces them to watch the match which happens to fall on their off day. said assistant coach is also friends with one of the leafs (not mark) bc they helped him on his skating skills. s/l gets to meet the leafs bc of this after the game
- leafs lost but mark got like 2 goals in and dh goes to compliment him with his limited hockey knowledge
- mark & donghyuck are pretty charmed with each other and mark wishes donghyuck good luck on their free dance
- mark watches their free dance (a remix of the way you make me feel + dirty diana by michael jackson) and it’s literally so raunchy that mark gets red.

- shin/lee shippers starts shaking crying throwing up. not only them but there’s a lot of viral tweets that’s like “so the korean ice dancers aren’t a couple???l *insert gif of donghyuck lovingly kissing ryujin’s temple after their rhythm dance”
- but also viral tweets like “omg did you guys know that mark lee of team canada’s hockey team is dating donghyuck lee, the south korean ice dancer? real life cutting edge!”
- s/l wins bronze & canada gets a medal! (not sure what color, up to interpretation)
- mark goes to watch the free dance and gets another hit tweet by having a big reaction to s/l getting the bronze (ahead of the canadian team, lol)
- so after, they’re officially dating but like most people still dont know about it so if’s a constant cycle of people getting upset that shin/lee aren’t dating irl but then seeing how cute mark/donghyuck are.

it actually kills me how sooo many fics ignore pairs skating and/or ice dance but if they dont then it’s always a team dating each other which is fine but LIKE!!! the tension of dating someone who the world wants to date someone else. your significant other’s career is “fucking someone metaphorically” on ice. s/l + mark always dominate pann, instiz, reddit, quora, ALL THE FORUMS.
i actually have more thoughts on this (esp s/l i’m literally obsessed with the concept of them being ice dancers. just translates so well from their own idol image & career) so i’ll keep editing the post hehe. thank u for appreciating the brainrot.
